Turnitin (a service used to detect plagiarism) uses the following chart to define 10 types of plagiarism:

Some of these types of plagiarism, like "Clone", are clearly wrong and it's the first thing people consider when thinking about plagiarism.  Some of the others are more complicated but still plagiarism and still wrong.  We will look at a few of these in depth in the next couple of pages.
